University of West Attica - Library at Campus 2
The Library of Campus 2 of the University of Western Attica (formerly TEI of Piraeus), through the former NSRF, has implemented a fully operational electronic information system that includes the library system, repositories and online publications, with the possibility of searching and browsing through library's portal.
During 2018 the library decided to complete the upgrade of its services by switching to the new V-Smart ILS library management and display suite, replacing the Advance system that can no longer meet modern requirements.
V-Smart is an Allweb system that offers many information and self-service capabilities to users with respect to the GDPR Directive. Provides easy publishing of statistics, it is multi-format and multi-database, so it has the ability to support different types of applications other than libraries, such as managing digital collections, archives, art collections, etc.
The system is complemented by the Iguana library portal library2.uniwa.gr, which displays the items, provides many web services to users and provides responsive access via smartphones and tablets.
The transition from Advance system has been complete, both for current and historical data, using special programs to retrieve, convert and then "load" data from Advance into V-Smart. The whole process was done automatically and in controlled stages.
At the same time, an RFiD signage and security system was installed, with equipment from the Dutch company Nedap that is represented by ELiDOC. The installation of RFiD technology security doors, and mostly, the placement of an RFiD mobile shelving system (the first establishment in Greece) has created a fully functional environment that facilitates students and library staff.
